Fighting concepts from tai chi 24 form.

This series of clips resulted from a discussion about fighting principles and martial applications found in the 24 form tai chi routine. There are several possible applications for each part of a taiji routine. These applications can include striking, kick, throws, joint control and pressure point manipulation.

Here, Ian Sinclair of Cloud Mountain Martial Arts demonstrates some techniques and principles with Curtis Holmberg.

View this as a discussion and exploration of concepts, not as a bible of techniques.
Also, remember that for any technique to work properly, the correct method must be applied with the proper tool. The method is found in tuishou practice (push hands), and the tool is refined in solo qigong and form practice.

In case you are not familiar with the 24 form, is is a simplified standard routine based on the traditional long routine of Yang Style Taijiquan (Tai Chi). The long routine requires one to three years to learn and takes 20 - 40 minutes to perform.
The 24 form was created in 1956 as part of the People's Republic of China National Fitness Program. A demonstration of the 24 form is at the bottom of this entry.
